Health Information Management Director

The Health Information Manager will work under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer. Direct and manage the facilities HIM department processes and systems to ensure accurate and complete medical record documentation. This position will ensure compliance with state and federal laws and standards related to privacy, security, and record retention.

*This position will not work remotely.

Responsibilities for Health Information Management Director

  • Develops and maintains HIM policies and procedures.

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities in the Health Information Management Department.

  • Demonstrates operational knowledge of information systems and health information management to include paper-based medical records and electronic medical records.

  • Demonstrates understanding of the Electronic Health Record environment and impact of governmental requirements which mandate electronic health information data exchange, remote patient access to records and electronic release of records.

  • Serves in leadership role as Privacy Officer to oversee all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws.

Qualifications for Health Information Management Director

  • Minimum of Associates degree in Health Information Management, Baccalaureate degree in Health Information Administration preferred.

  • Certified as an RHIT or RHIA

  • Effective communicator with critical thinking skills

  • Ability to lead team members and the ability to solve problems swiftly
