Infection Control Nurse

The Infection Control Nurse will work under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing. The aim of the Infection Control Nurse is to optimize patient care through the prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of healthcare associated infection (HAIs). This individual will be required to provide and maintain a comprehensive, efficient, and effective infection prevention and control service for patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities for the Infection Control Nurse

  • Receive, review, and follow-up on culture reports regarding HAIs and MDROs; inpatient rounding on MDROs; inpatient rounding to assess antibiotic use, audit urinary catheters and central lines and document in IC Log.

  • Report Communicable diseases to ADH and CDC as appropriate; evaluation of negative pressure rooms and document action taken; Report flu via ADH flu surveillance; identify trends and provide staff announcement and follow up with ADH; Receive, review, and document AEL results from lab (ED & PCU) and refer to charge nurse for follow up.

  • Report identified trends in disease/illness to department directors; report facility findings to appropriate director; education of staff/departments as appropriate; monitor high risk situations and outbreaks; track PIP and document updates; NHSN reporting of MDROs, Device Use, HAIs for ED, PCU, and Swing Bed; NHSN reporting of employee covid vaccination status; new hire orientation.

Qualifications for the Quality and Compliance Nurse

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Healthcare Administration or equivalent preferred

  • 3-5+ years' experience in clinical LPN role or related experience

  • Current LPN License or compact state license

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills

    Secondary Functions: All other duties assigned by CEO or CNO
