Laboratory Assistant

The Laboratory Assistant will work under the general supervision of Laboratory Director. The Lab Assistant will coordinate and perform tasks and activities in several areas of the clinical laboratory. Depending upon the area of responsibility the Laboratory Assistant will monitor the status of the workflow tasks involved and shall prioritize each task, coordinate performance tasks by other phlebotomist and report frequently and directly to the Lab Director about completion of tasks.

Responsibilities for Laboratory Assistant

  • Processes sample test in some technical areas.

  • Under the supervision and direction of a medical technologist perform test processing in certain areas of the clinical lab.

  • Processes all laboratory test requisitions and specimens quickly, efficiently, and appropriately.

  • Assists other laboratory personnel as workload permits without being requested to do so.

  • Refers to appropriate policy and procedure manuals as necessary.

  • Communicates with reference labs for proper specimen requirements.

  • Readily assists other laboratory personnel with requested.

  • Can perform all tasks assigned.

Qualifications for Laboratory Assistant

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Current phlebotomy certification

  • 3-5+ years medical phlebotomy experience required

  • Must work well in a team environment.

    Secondary Functions: All other duties assigned by Lab Director
